Muchos artistas encuentran los espacios no convencionales emocionantes e inspiradores para mostrar su trabajo y para gestionar y comisariar la obra de otros artistas. En muchos casos encuentran que los “fantasmas” resonantes, las historias vivas o las actividades sociales crean un espacio fértil para el compromiso entre los artistas y sus trabajos.
Se está incrementando notablemente el numero de espacios no artísticos que abren sus puertas a artistas para comisariar trabajos y estos recursos han sido una influencia muy positiva en estos esfuerzos. Pero ¿Cómo de libre es un artista para hacer lo que él quiere en estos espacios? ¿Hay alguna responsabilidad social o financiera para usar estos espacios? Quizás el artista debería permanecer irreverente, subversivo o debería arriesgarse más en sus propuestas.
Como espacios públicos, privados, sociales y domésticos para mostrar y comisariar trabajos, estos lugares son vitales para obtener resultados espontáneos e impredecibles. Parece que el diálogo debería ser de confianza mutua, asumiendo riesgos por ambas partes - artistas por un lado y usuarios/gestores por el otro - para permitir que las cosas inesperadas y no convencionales puedan suceder.
Many artists find non-conventional spaces exciting and inspirational for showing their work and for curating and commissioning other artist. In many cases they find the resonating “ghosts”, and living histories or social activities a fertile space for public engagement with both artist and their work.
ResponderEliminarMany non-art spaces are increasingly opening the doors to artist to curate work and funding agencies have been positively active in influencing such endeavours. How free is the artist to do what they wish to do in such spaces? Is there an accountability or social responsibility to users of those spaces? Perhaps the artist should remain irreverent, subversive and should “rough things up a bit?”
As places for showing and curating work, public, private, social and domestic spaces are vital sites for spontaneus and unpredictable outcomes. It seems that the dialogue should be around mutual trust, embracing risk on both sides - artists on the one hand and users/managers on the other - to allow unexpected and the unconventional to happen.
